Slano is in the center of many attractive tourist
locations.

The proximity of the Pelješac
peninsula, Ston, the Elafite islands, the island of Mljet, the Neretva river
delta and Dubrovnik make Slano the perfect destination for those who want to
explore this unique area, and its unique gastronomic, historical and cultural
heritage.

Dubrovnik

The cherry on top is Dubrovnik. The pearl city of world heritage – unique and unrepeatable.
In its historical treasury, Dubrovnik has preserved palaces, churches and monasteries, streets and fields, the stone mantle of walls, towers and fortresses, the inimitable Stradun, the wealth of heritage, tradition and spirituality.
It is a unique City of freedom, defined by a unique Statute from 1272, recognizable by the banner of St. Vlaho on all the seas of the world.
Its inhabitants also contributed to the glory of Dubrovnik: Marin Držić, writer; Ivan Gundulić, poet; brilliant astronomer and mathematician Ruđer Bošković; Marin Getaldić, the famous mathematician, and many others. These are only the most genius ones who have contributed to world science and literature.
With wisdom, diplomacy and good management of the city and the Republic, this city survived in the environment of political and military forces and was a strong maritime and trading power in the 16th century.<br>
It is therefore not surprising that today it is the city of tourists and tourism.
Take a walk around Dubrovnik and take a break in one of the countless bars and restaurants, on Stradun, or on the walls. Or anywhere in Dubrovnik or that matter, where at every step you experience the spirit of the past mixed with the present.
Because of all this, they chose Dubrovnik as the main filming location in Croatia for King’s Landing, the fictional city from Game of Thrones.
The charm of Dubrovnik is really hard to resist. It is a must-visit location.

Korčula

From the Pelješac peninsula via the pier in Orebić, you can take a ferry to the island of Korčula. In ancient times it was called Korkyra Melania, i.e. Corcyra nigra – Black Korčula. This alone makes it clear that this is a special city.
Located in the Pelješka Channel, the island of Korčula, with the main settlement of the same name, Korčula, has preserved its distinctiveness and wealth of monumental heritage, rich cultural heritage, and a very long maritime and shipbuilding tradition.
Korčula is also known for its white stone. Many famous buildings around the world were built from white Korčula stone.
The town of Korčula is a colorful island Mediterranean town with narrow streets, numerous churches, palaces, and according to tradition, this is the hometown of the famous sailor and world traveler Marco Polo.
Today, Korčula is a tourist destination for many tourists.
You can also go to Korčula by speedboat from Slano. An hour and a half of unforgettable driving will make your visit even more memorable.

Ston

The first in a series of places that we recommend visiting is the small town of Ston, which is also the closest to Slano. In Roman times Ston was called Turris Stagni. In 1333 it became part of the Republic of Dubrovnik. In the Republic of Dubrovnik, Ston played the role of a salt producer.

The people of Dubrovnik build and fortified the small town as a defense of the Pelješac peninsula in order to protect the salt pans where they produced the highly sought-after salt from which they collected large revenues.

When the construction of the fortified complex with walls 5.5 kilometers long was completed, the longest fortification complex in Europe and the second in the world, right after the Great Wall of China, was created.

The remains of this impressive complex are still a sight to see. Really impressive.

There is also an open-air museum.

Tourists are furthermore attracted by the gastronomic specialties of this region – oysters and mussels – which the Maloston Bay is famous for.

Mljet

Mljet is one of the ten most beautiful islands in the world and is the only European island on the list. It is an island of peculiarities and contrasts, the northwestern part of which has been declared a National Park, due to its unique natural beauty, centuries-old forests, the Great and Small Lakes, cultural and historical monuments, including the famous ancient palace and Benedictine monastery from the 12th century on the islet of St. Mary and the Roman Palace, which is just behind Diocletian’s Palace in Split and the arena in Pula in terms of size. All of this belongs to the valuable cultural heritage of the island of Mljet.

Mljet has had its own development throughout history, so today it is known for its cultural heritage, especially for its colorful folk costumes, various handicrafts, folk dances and original folk music.

This is one of the pearls worth visiting.

Pelješac

Throughout history, the Pelješac peninsula has preserved its role and tradition. These are wine and vines.

Vines have been cultivated in this area since Roman times. The fertile vineyards of Pelješac produce high-quality, famous red wines – dingač, postup and plavac – appreciated and sought after all over the world.

This is an essential point for all tourists who love good Mediterranean wine.

Elaphite Islands:

The group of Elafite or Jelenji islands consists of eight islands and five islets. The largest island in the group is Šipan, and it also consists of Lopud, Koločep (Kalamota), Jakljan, Ruda, Goleč and Crkvina, as well as some smaller islands and rocks such as Greben, and only three are inhabited: Koločep, Lopud and Šipan.

Although today the islands are no longer inhabited by deer, the islands owe them their name (Greek: ἔλαφος, elaphos=deer).

On the three largest islands, there is a lot of cultural and historical heritage, i.e. many churches, chapels and summer houses of Dubrovnik nobility.

These are islands of extraordinary beauty, eternal guardians of the Dubrovnik sea and coast, islands of fearless captains and sailors of the Republic of Dubrovnik.

Your excursion will take you to magical destinations as if from paradise. These islands will show you in all their beauty wealth of flora and fauna. You will be amazed by the natural beauty and beautiful landscape, picturesque towns built of white stone, surrounded by lush green pines and the foam of the untouched sea.

Šipan

An island rich in vineyards and olive groves since ancient times. There is an impressive number of monuments in this small area: over thirty churches, several monasteries, and about sixty Gothic-Renaissance summer houses.

The two largest settlements are Šipanska luka and Suđurađ, a lovely fishing port.

On the inside of the island, there are plenty of shelters and beautiful natural anchorages, where pine branches reach the surface of the sea.

Koločep

The very first meeting with Kalamota, as Koločep is called in Dubrovnik, will not leave you indifferent. The green island with centuries-old pine forests, carob trees, olive groves, gardens full of oranges and lemons, with beautiful beaches, and a large, fragrant park, is one of Dubrovnik’s favorite picnic spots.

Its two largest bays are home to settlements: Gornje Čelo and Donje Čelo.

The sea is clear and abundant with fish and shellfish. Once the inhabitants of Koločep were the most famous coral growers of the Mediterranean. This island has also been inhabited since ancient times. This is evidenced by numerous monuments.

Lopud

It is an island with a long maritime tradition and the home of numerous famous sea captains and sailors, since the time of the Republic of Dubrovnik. There is a magnificent view of Dubrovnik from the island.

Lopud is a small island with a rich cultural-historical heritage: fortresses, churches, summer houses and monasteries rich in valuable works of art which are scattered all over the island.

This island is rich in beaches. Swim and rest on the sandy beaches, walk through the dense vegetation and relax in this paradise on earth with a traditional lunch.
